Dogo Onsen Is The Oldest Hot Spring in Japan

Dogo Onsen is the oldest hot spring in Japan and is mentioned in mythology.

The main building of Dogo Onsen is the symbol of the Dogo Onsen area. The public bathhouse is designated as a property of national and cultural importance. 

 

Dogo Onsen Is Currently Being Renovated

At the moment,  the onsen is covered with a colourful awning due to its renovation.

The front of the building is still under construction, and only the back of the building has been uncovered (as of 16 November, 2021).

Even during the renovation, the onsen is still open for business.

The new landmark of Dogo Onsen is "Dogo Onsen Annex Asukano Onsen Asuka no Yu". The beautiful flower paintings are the work of famous artist Mika Ninagawa.

The white-painted Jizo statue at Enmanji Temple, a power spot for romance, is a must-see in Dogo Onsen.

Many people visit because it's very rare that the main building of Dogo Onsen is under renovation. The work has about two years left until 2024 (planned), so don't miss it!
