Their roots from the branches, and eventually they reach the soil to get nourishment. However, when the ground no longer offers proper sustenance to the trees, they will instinctively make their roots grow in another direction. After a few years , the trees could be located in a different position. For this reason, these trees are also called "the walking tree". No wonder that Okinawan people believed the "gajumaru" to be supernatural!
