King of winter: Matsuba Crab 📍Tottori
Fresh Matsuba crab
Matsuba crabs are grown male snow crabs that are landed in the San-in region. This is one of Tottori's most popular winter delicacies, with its tightly packed meat and elegant flavor.
Whole Matsuba crab
Matsuba crab is usually eaten boiled, but it can also be eaten in kani-sukiyaki (thinly sliced and cooked/simmered at the table in a shallow iron pot, together with other ingredients), zosui (rice porridge), or grilled. Besides the body, tomalley (crab fat) is also widely popular as a delicacy. You can also eat sashimi if it is fresh. The thick texture and unique sweetness are the best!
