New Year's tradition -📍 Nagahama Bonbai Exhibition, Shiga

Bonbai in the spotlight

Bonbai is a bonsai of Ume (plum) blossom tree. At the Nagahama Bonbai Exhibition, about 90 of the 300 pots will be displayed in a pure Japanese-style tatami room. Some of them are giant trees that are nearly 3 meters high and old trees that are 400 years old.

Variations of bonbai

This Nagahama Bonbai Exhibition began in 1952 and is celebrating its 71st anniversary in 2022. It's popular every year to visit as a New Year's tradition.

The venue, Keiunkan, has been designated as National Scenic Beauty, and it is worth seeing the garden created by famous Japanese Horticulturist, the 7th generation Ogawa Jihei.

Obviously, this is the best time to visit Nagahama!
