The Giant Zenigata Sand Painting in Kotohiki Park, Kagawa

Zenigata sand painting

The Giant Zenigata Sand Painting was designed using coins from the Edo period (1603-1868).  It says "Kan'ei Tsuho" on it. Can you read it?

It was actually carved out of sand by the inhabitants in just one night to welcome the Lord of Takamatsu when he was on a tour of the prefecture about 1,400 years ago.

It is a huge elliptical shape, 122 meters in length, 90 meters in width and 345 meters in circumference. The entire sand painting can be seen as a perfect circle from the observatory at the top of the mountain.

It has long been said that those who see it will live a long and healthy life and will never be in need of money.
